Option 2 really wouldn't be that much more in the overall scheme of things. Could open it up also with no vanity if that is not a load bearing wall.

I do agree that you should get a freestanding tub. The sunken tub is the most dated feature in the bathroom. The right tub could really make the look.

I LOVE that shower and will weep if you destroy it for a soulless, modern shower. Retile and upgrade/update the fixtures.

Anyone can renovate and put in a cookie cutter 2024 bathroom. How long are you going to live in this house? In 10-15 years it will be dated. Do what's right for you.

That's an interesting idea. Thank you! We plan on living in the house for a while. Hopefully 10+ years. That being said, I would like to avoid things looking dated in 10 years. The renovation of our last home held up pretty well over 13 years.
