I do an OCMD trip every year in September, usually the weekend right after Labor Day. It's so much more pleasant there during that time of the year.

Everything is still open but most of the crowds are gone. The beach isn't crowded and neither is the boardwalk. There are no long waits for the good restaurants either.

I know it's considered low-class around these parts, but I love OCMD. I also love that I can be there in 2.5 hours instead of the 7 hours it takes to get to the house we always rent in the OBX.

I also appreciate being able to walk out for burgers or ice cream.

This is rather bizarre. Lewes has like 3 bars and mostly shuts down by 9:00PM. It is a year round historic village and not really a "resort" town the way the beach front places are heading south.

Sorry that was me and I was totally wrong-we went to Dewey not Lewis. I’m not from the Maryland area originally and I have a hard time keeping all these straight! Maybe I would like Lewes better. Is there ice cream there?

LOL--Dewey is about as far opposite as you can get from Lewes in terms of the crowd. Yes, Lewes has ice cream but not much else. It's lovely but I think of it as a beach for really young families or people who want to go to a beach town but not necessarily go to the beach.

I don’t get people that eat at Le Diplomat, NYC is better.

I don’t get people who go up the Washington monument, the Eiffel Tower is better.

I don’t get people who hike in the Shenandoah, the Cascades are way better.

This is so tedious. Yes, brb going to pack my three kids on a private plane for the weekend…

OBX is not better either. We stopped going there in the early 2000s.

Ha ha, so true. Let those status symbol folks think that Rehoboth is still the beach to be at. Some of us know that Bethany and North OC are better at this point. Old DC money can’t wrap their head around those beaches being on the come up.

I go to Bethany, because it's the closest option. I don't think it's a status symbol or a "premier beach", I think it's a perfectly nice beach that I can drive to. I spend my "vacations" elsewhere.

You don't have to go, but I think it's weird to be confused why others do. We go because it's there. Great Falls isn't the best hiking in the world but I'm not going to stop hiking as a result.

It was OK in the 90s. Now it is a hellscape.

It’s very quaint but boring and not on an ocean beach.

I love Rehoboth. Maybe I'm a bit nostalgic about it - started out going with college friends, now as an adult with my own family.

This is kind of a funny question. A lot of the people who go to the DE and MD beaches….love being at the beach! That’s the reason it’s packed. I was just in OC/Fenwick last week and it was really pleasant with a great breeze. There is no substitute for swimming in the ocean and enjoying the waves. So, that’s why people go!

It’s too busy bc all the development that has taken place in the last 15 years farther out.
