Subject: Where did you absolutely hate?
This is closer to home: Colonial Beach.
Last summer we were looking for a beach that's doable for a day trip from nova. Colonial Beach came on our radar. From my quick research, it sounded promising.
The place was dead in the middle of summer. The beach itself was littered with bird poop, and the sand hard. There were barely a handful of restaurants/cafes open. It was very depressing.

There is a documentary about the homeless kids of Anaheim who live in the motels near Disneyland and watch the fireworks every night but can never visit. So sad.

Absolutely hate is a little strong but Dubai is not for me. The heat, the horrible traffic, the disgusting displays of wealth, everything just feels "fake." I didn't like the vibes, just felt like a lot of bad things happen there once you barely scratch the surface. I went for work but would never go back on my own dime.

Valencia, Spain, ugh.
Smells like a swamp, very humid (they grow all the rice, so you've got that rice paddy humidity mixing with mediterranean humidity). NOt a fan of horchata; the famed fatones are sad not-donuts; the City of Science is incredibly poorly designed because it's like walking on the surface of the sun in the middle of nowhere. most depressing, smelliest aquarium I've ever visited. and the beach is dirty and sad.

See we went to a luxury resort (Andaz/Four Seasons) and felt it was a closer, half the price nice alternative to Hawaii. Great for a long weekend and a lot of interesting excursions and day trips like Hawaii for an active trip! It felt luxurious, secluded and just nice at a fraction of the cost. That said, I love Hawaii but only certain areas.

Wouldn't go back:
OBX in the summer. Hot as hell and boring. Not enough to do and anything there is to do it's too hot. Hellacious drive to get there from DC area. Don't get it.
Madrid, Spain and Vienna, Austria. Just bland and uninspired cities without a lot of personality. Maybe I missed something.

My list is random:
Cologne, Germany. So boring and not that pretty except the famous church.
Pitlochery, Scotland. A tourist trap for a reason I couldn't figure out. I did have an amazing Indian meal there at least.
Los Angeles. I was so disappointed. I thought it would be prettier and cleaner and more fun.

I definitely don't need to go back to Buson Korea. It felt like visiting Baltimore - just nothing that really excited me.
I loved Seoul and Jeju, though, if anyone is thinking of heading to Asia.
(Also had a great two days in Tokyo and wish we'd had more time there.)

Have lived all over the world and hated every damn minute I spent in Nairobi. Have been in poor countries and war zones but have never felt so unsafe and unwanted.
