I have used a cleaning service for years and I have never had anything stolen. So I would say "not normal " to stealing stuff

What? I’ve had 3 cleaners over 13 years (moves were the reason for change over) and never had any issues with theft. I have to believe most people are honest.

But, are you sure the items are stolen and not just overly cleaned (as in, they noticed the shampoo bottle was empty and tossed it) or misplaced?

Ask around for an excellent cleaner and make sure you vet their references. I found mine on Nextdoor. She's there for 6 hours, longer if necessary. Sometimes you get a married couple or mother-daughter duo that are both great but I have been most successful with one.

Your homes must all be huge bc if someone were opening a closet or a cabinet door or rummaging through my stuff in my 2000 square foot home, I for sure would hear it and would go and check that part of the house out!

OP again. The shampoo was new and unopened. No one is going to take open shampoo. Other items include table runners, silverware and clothing. They came as a crew of four so there’s no way you could follow them all around and watch. I wouldn’t do that anyway. The woman in charge was asked about the missing items but did not respond. I thought about cameras but I’d need a lot of them. I’ve been cleaning the toilets myself, it’s lots of fun.

No, reputable cleaners don't steal from you.

I’ve lived in two countries in South America and the families there go to great lengths to try to prevent theft in the home by domestic workers. It’s recognized as endemic that hired staff there will steal.

What do they do? Pat them down? Cameras?
