One of the Olympic swimmers said her club had a tradition that if you won a race you got an rubber ducky and then they showed a clip of her house with a wall just full of hundreds of rubber duckies in buckets. It was cute (as was the golden ducky they gave her).

Is it permanently displayed? It their home. They can do what they want for their decor. You have been invited in. If it's a display just for a party/event, yes it's tacky.

I’ve never heard of that. I attended several parties and any slide shows focused on groups of friends and family and no one shared all their awards.

The young lady is an above average but certainly not a great swimmer, yet if you looked at the immense display, you'd think she was over in Paris competing in the Olympics. It is that easy to rack up awards and pageantry if you enter enough tournaments and teams or something? Seemed very odd and tacky, to us.

I feel sorry for your kids. They are going to grow up forever miserable thinking that if they are not Katie Ledecky they have failed their mother.

And I think that's really cool! It shows effort.

Why do you care?

I was surprised a teen not that great at a sport can seemingly buy that many awards. And then to display it all for guests like you're Katie Ledecky was a bit over the top, to me.

This post just makes me feel sad for you. You sound truly miserable.

+1 Some of you parents are disgusting. I love that the girl's parents are proud of their DD. You have no idea what she had to overcome through her childhood. Maybe she was painfully shy or overcame a heart condition. Even if there was nothing that dramatic behind the awards who cares? Can't you just be happy for a child and their parents? How many trophies and medals have you won in your lifetime?

I can also imagine the child may have been embarrassed by the display but really loves her parents or her parents were going through something and she let them have their day. The lack of perspective of some of you.

It is tacky to bully a teen when you’re an adult.

You can get a bunch of ribbons through summer swim. Our league had seven meets. Since you could swim 3 individual events plus 2 relays, one could earn 35 ribbons over the course of a summer by just attending the regular meets.

Not everything is tacky, don't be a hater.

It's their party. Who TF cares? I would hate to have a. "friend" like you, attending and then criticizing every thing

Completely agree. There’s nothing wrong with this at all.
