Table for one or eating at the bar by yourself and scrolling on your phone or pretending to care about the sports match on the TV (if they have a TV) is embarrassing. I once dressed in formal evening gown to attend an opera at the Met in New York. I splurged on a box seat all by myself. I had just had a broken engagement and this made me feel absolutely wonderful and I knew that I would be fine land on my feet!
Good for you PP!!! I celebrated the end of my divorce trial by having lunch solo where I ordered a huge rare steak which was so satisfying to cut up with that huge knife. lol
The waiter threw in complimentary champagne and desert that said congratulations. Great lunch!!!

Next week I will be in Japan and will eat alone in a different restaurant twice a day for the entire week.
Japan is great for single diners. So many office workers who work late and eat on the way home. Totally normal there.
And in S Korea you would be seen as a weird outcast for dining alone! I would think norms would be more similar in two East Asian countries in such proximity, but I guess not.
