Anyone thinking Sears has a chance of winning a general election is nuts.
Really? I'm a moderate Dem and I have a better opinion of Youngkin now because VA is doing pretty well and he hasn't done anything to mess that up. We're not a state in shamble. We just need a steady hand at the wheel so we don't drive off into a ditch.
This. I'm fine with deadlocked state government because I think that Virginia is doing well and we don't need massive legislative packages from either party

Things are pretty good as they are. Gov. Youngkin has done a good job keeping with moderate common sense policy which has mostly come in the form of NOT supporting things like increasing access to recreational drugs and vetoing minimum wage hikes that would have been job killers for teens/young people and rural parts of the state. I’m also very happy with the school cell phone ban.
I will vote for whoever is the most moderate and common sense.

I think Youngkin has been an all-around good governor.

I don't trust her at all. I think Virginia runs better off normal conservatism (NOT Trumpism). Sears or Miyares would have my vote.
Sears would be the first black woman governor EVER yet Democrats want to pass over her for a pale white lady who carpetbagged to run for Congress in Nova (she lives in the Richmond area).
She can't even say the border is bad or that men shouldn't play in women's sports, yet I hear everyone talking about how moderate she is.
I am begging someone to tell me when/how she has voted against Democrats on something. What is so moderate about her?
Well, yes, because while I realize right-wingers tend to think very simplistically about things, liberals tend to vote on issues. No one gives a shit if she's a black woman if her policies are bad for Virginia. Your suggestion that we should overlook those things and vote for her because she's a black woman is cynical and stupid.
Do you really believe this?
not pp, but of course. you dont?
maybe blk republicans will be swayed to vote for her? maybe. and maybe racists will vote against her? but i dont see what her being blk has to do with Dems.
how do you see her race playing out? how did race change things for blk republicans elected to office? and those not elected?

It sounds like (white) VA Republicans have someone else in mind in 2025. Or maybe elite VA GOP bigwigs had privately agreed that there would be no announcement prior to Election Day 2024. Sears running throws those plans into disarray. But who knows?
I detest Sears but announcing her gubernatorial campaign 14 months ahead of Election Day is a pretty normal timeline for entering such a high-profile race. And I don't see how this takes away from stumping for Trump....puzzling.
