I worked at a finreg with someone whose father had been a payday lender who operated next to an army base. After his father died, my colleague cleaned out his small office and found hundreds of thank you letters from grateful soldiers for being there with cash when they most needed it.
It is another perspective, one that should not be dismissed even as we are appalled by the APRs.

The book was a bestseller. (I haven't read it but I've certainly heard of it.) It's a memoir - so people have complained about some inaccuracies or exaggerations, but they don't understand memoirs. Memoirs aren't autobiographies, they are the story of someone's life.
There is a lot of valid criticism of the book. He paints a broad brush, with lots of stereotypes, and blames people for standing in their own way of success. He also said drunk uncles who beat their wives were the epitome of masculinity. It’s easy to google this. Many writers from Appalachia have criticized it, many of them women who also weren’t given lucrative speaking roles in television because they didn’t deal in tragi-porn (and are also women).

You are who you associate with. If someone wants to associate with known racists, then I assume they at best, they are accepting of racists, if not actually one themselves.
Personally, I like my president and vice president to represent ALL Americans. Someone who thinks rape is acceptable and abortion is absolute is not representing of all Americans, they are representing a tiny minority and are chomping at the bit to impose their world view on the country.

Yes. He was a war correspondent and served six months in Iraq. He got a full ride scholarship to Yale.
The “elite coastal ivory tower expert” system did nothing but treat him unfairly.
He didn’t “get” a full ride scholarship - he earned it for military service in a war zone.
Compared to the way most Ivy League losers got into their schools, Vance took a much harder path.

The book is good. And it highlights an issue of a group of people who are forgotten and they have struggles.
If you’ve been to those areas you can see the poverty and lack of resources. It’s also the only group of people where it’s ok to be racist against them and it’s acceptable.
It’s a decent look at why these people liked Trump .
Vance is a good pick. He is literally the blue collar class of America that votes for Trump. He was in the Marine and made his own way . He’s young and he is what a lot of blue collar Americans are or want to be.
What’s even better, Trump one him over. He didn’t like him, and encase of that was on CNN and a darling on the media . When Trump was president and we had a great economy, massive growth and peace, that’s what won him over . It’s good to change your mind when you see the facts . He didn’t let the media and the press tell him what to think. He broke from the NOC mold to see Trump for what he is, and the MSM and democrats for what they are. Most liberals are still essentially just useful idiots and drones parroting the narratives. People like Vance aren’t fooled by that.
