My hunch is you are trying to stir the pot. What about all the A meet swimmers who pay the same fee and practice 1 day a week bc of club? That is a lot of my pool’s lineup and quite frankly we need them for budgeting purposes (if they actually practiced every day our lanes would be packed). Or, how about the B meet swimmer who attends doubles and therefore gets 9 practices a week. A lot of our little kids love to attend doubles when they can and don’t make A meets.

Our pool charges $250 a kid for daily practice for 7 weeks. If your kid attends practice daily (not to mention they could double) that comes out to approx $6.25 per session. How does this thread make it seem like people are being taken advantage of?

There is never going to be any system in the universe that is completely equitable for every single participant. Enjoy it or decide to do a different activity.

It the live stream off or are they running incredibly behind? Seems to be a lot of time wasted between heats and event start times are a solid 20 min off from what is in meet mobile.

I also never get the secrecy. They posted times for the first 2 events then stopped updating.

It’s on now but there is no sound. Better than nothing I guess.

It wasn’t working in my phone. It was just “spinning” and would play for a few seconds and then freeze. It is working on my laptop. I have no sound on either.

Is anyone else trying to watch the livestream? It doesn’t appear to be working

A meet swimmers do get to swim in more meets. But if your b meet swimmers aren’t getting the same attention from coaches at practices, and the A meet parents aren’t being asked to volunteer at all the meets where their kids swim (both a and b meets) then your team has a problem. Those things aren’t going on at our mid-division team.

Just based on how the season is structured, A meet swimmers will get more attention. Going into divisional relays, the kids swimming the relays get more attention. The kids who make ASR get more attention leading into the meet. Kids who make the IM carnival get more attention. Kids not swimming divisionals end practice a week before kids swimming divisionals. Kids swimming all stars get another week after that

Oh please, A meet families naturally volunteer a LOT more. Our team doesn't currently have volunteer requirements, but I can tell you A meet families are a lot more committed to the team and do a hell of a lot more of the work. Team Reps ALWAYS have A meet swimmers as do all of our officials, data coordinator, table head and so forth. It's rare that a family with strictly B meet swimmers are volunteering to do any of the big jobs.

A meet kids will always get to swim more, but there are things teams can do to help make it a bit more equitable. Pep rallies, themes, team breakfasts and the other fun stuff aren't tied to A meets. Tie them to B meets or practices instead. We refer to socials rather than pep rallies since they're for the whole team and not focused on A meets.

B meets we split shift volunteer roles for almost everything except our ref and starter. It means that even our parents whose kids also swim A meets need to step up.

At our pool we do have an expectation that parents of kids who swim all A meets volunteer more. Most do 2x. People don't notice. I have a season long job and so does my husband. We work a min of 8 meets each. Someone asked how they could get an easy job like mine. I politely let them know I work 10 meets normally and so does my husband. People who have kids at divisionals and All starts and The relay carnivals are expected to work those meets in addition to their "season" amount.


It will never be perfect, but most of the veteran parents do double, it just isn't advertised.

Yep. Spot on. The parents of little kids who are B meet swimmers definitely subsidize the whole operation for parents of older A meet kids who are often pretty checked out or just participate in the fun and competitive events.

If your team doesn't require more volunteering from A meet swimmers then the B meet only families are absolutely subsidizing the A swimmers' experience. Not to mention that the A meet volunteer job shift are much shorter than the B meet jobs.
