I mean, if you want to rely on the polls that have been increasingly off, sure. But people who are paying attention know that Trump’s vow to get revenge coupled with the Project 2025 agenda that for sure would be put through… yeah no.

Trump trusted more than Biden on democracy among key swing-state voters- Washington Post June 26, 2024:

In speeches and campaign ads, Biden points to Trump’s efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election, his incitement of an angry mob that ransacked the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, and the former president’s boasts that he will use the powers of his office to punish his political enemies.

But that message may not be resonating with the voters Biden needs in order to win another term in the White House.

In six swing states that Biden narrowly won in 2020, a little more than half of voters classified as likely to decide the presidential election say threats to democracy are extremely important to their vote for president, according to a poll by The Washington Post and the Schar School of Policy and Government at George Mason University. Yet, more of them trust Trump to handle those threats than Biden. And most believe that the guardrails in place to protect democracy would hold even if a dictator tried to take over the country.

I wouldn't give much weight to any poll conducted at George Mason U. They're a far-right outfit with a known bias.

Trump attempted a coup in 2020. There's no way people believe he cares about democracy.

I'm definitely voting for whoever the Democratic nominee is, but I feel the need to do more.

Speak to the trumpers in your life. Some of them are reachable.

(She says, ruefully, knowing her father abstained from voting for Trump in 2020 but might not again)

This.

And if not Trumpets in your life, watch Fox. Understand where his support comes from.

Then volunteer to make phone calls or go door knock in swing states.

Plus do NOT donate to any political candidate unless you are independently wealthy or you truly believe in an underfunded candidate. Money to someone like Biden may be $$ down the drain.

I love it when strangers call, or knock on my door, and proceed to tell me what I should think and do

As someone who makes these calls DAILY I can say you have it wrong. First, sometimes we’re calling strong partisans to get them involved, sometimes we’re calling folks who don’t vote often so our calls are more about listening to them, sometimes we’re educating voters of the choices or the candidate’s agenda/track record. Most people are checked out. Many people like to give their opinions! We listen, they feel heard. These one to one conversations are impactful and much better than what we are doing now — writing on an anonymous message board.

Next month, I’ll start knocking doors. Let me give you an example of what happened last year (Virginia). I knocked on the door of a man who was not going to vote at all. He was disillusioned with the whole process his wife had just been diagnosed with stage four cancer. I stood there and listen to him with real empathy the struggles he was going through then he talked about how he was a Vet and issues he had with the VA. The candidate I was knocking for, was a Vet. The potential voter did not know that. I sat and listened to him, I empathize And I gave him information that he did not know. He said he would vote for my candidate.

This is why we do the work. It’s not sexy. It’s not quick. And it’s so, so rewarding to do this work and connect with fellow Americans.

I also just started doing some of this type of work and it can be rewarding. People are surprisingly polite and some are so uninformed even as to the date of the election and different ways they can vote .

PP here. Thank you and yes, people IRL are much kinder. Anyone who wants to keep Trump out of WH just pick an organization to volunteer with and try it

Me too, but the polls show Trump is so far ahead and after last Thursday's debate performance things will likely get worse. I like Joe and even feel he's been a fine president, but he needs to step back and put our nation first. He is not able to defeat the orange felon in November.

Polls don’t vote, people do. And since Trump came on the scene , democrats are winning in higher numbers. Google it.

Democracy is too important to leave it to the un-democratic party only interested in lies and deceit to perpetuate their fraud on the people of this country.

Were you paying attention on January 6 when Trump incited his supporters to march down to the Capitol and overturn our democracy?

Yes, watched it live on TV from early in the morning.

That’s how we got into the current mess

No, the current mess is caused almost exclusively by voters tribally going for Republicans no matter how poor quality or corrupt the candidates were or how nasty their politics were. The current mess was caused by the rightward turn of the country by the GOP exploiting quirks in our political system. We’ve suffered under right wing politics and here we are.

Republicans don’t say vote red no matter who.

That’s democrats: “Vote blue no matter who!!l

And you claim democrats aren’t tribally going for democrats?

Do I need to point to the regular splintering of Democratic votes, as in 2016? Yes. Democrats are like house cats. Republicans are like Nazis.

Joe Biden is a vigorous, honest, mentally sharp man, and republicans are Nazis.

He has a 6 handicap, and can carry his own bag!

Trump can barely haul his morbidly obese 270 pound ass out of a golf cart.

Body shaming has no place here

Biden tried that, look how well it turned out in the debate.

270 is generous. I know guys who are Trump's exact height and shape who are pushing closer to 300.

I am 1000x not a Trump supporter but I hate hate these posts / comments about his appearance. It’s just not relevant. His policies speak loudly enough. Don’t turn people off with these personal attacks. It brings the focus on all the wrong things.

It's not his "appearance" I'm concerned about - it's Trump's glaringly obvious health problems. And, it's more like point #1,573 out of the lengthy lengthy list of reasons why Trump is unfit than the sole reason and nobody ever said otherwise.

And, yet, your party is floating JB Pritzker as a possible replacement for Joe.

Democrats should call swing state voters and inform them they are racists and bigots. Help them understand how stupid they are, and how smart democrats will protect democracy.

Democrats in the Midwest love being told how to think and vote by Democrats on the East and West Coasts.

Lots of Midwest democrats participate in phone banks. If nothing else you will need like minded folks from all over the country. It is interesting.

Meet like minded folks from all over the country.
