He was given money to purchase materials (tile, tub, vanity etc) which he will not deliver to me unless he is allowed to do the job. He’s basically holding them hostage until he comes over. He was supposed to bring the materials weeks ago and kept stalling with a different job then he said he got sick then I had family issues.


He probably blew the money and didn't order the stuff. He doesn't have the money and is now caught.

I would not work with someone who sent me text messages with cursing. He postponed the project for his convenience but then curses when you do? Serves him right. It's not your fault his other projects canceled.

Next time, use a contract and specify the start and end times for the project. If the contractor moves them, that's a good reason to cancel the contract.

Totally agree. We have been renovating for close to two months and I let them come whenever they need to, including on a Sunday, just to get them out of here faster. You do sound like a bit of a pain, OP.

Well there is no written agreement but if you have verbal agreement it should be honored.
If she is seriously concerned about her physical well being that will be different issue.

This is ridiculous. There is no contract. He is not obligated to you and you are not obligated to him. You do not need to allow anyone in your home that makes you uncomfortable. Understand that he may not provide you with the materials, but that is a small price to pay for your peace. Tell him you have another financial obligation and can no longer fund the job. He is welcome to sell the materials to offset the inconvenience. Seems fair. Apologize and wish him the best.

Why would you look this gift horse in the mouth? I'm puttering around, watching my recorded shows and slow-cleaning my home. I would love the satisfaction of knowing my project is soon finished and my handyman is happily working away.

Do you suffer from anxiety? You are choosing to care more about some phantom nebulous timeline than actually getting the project done; I don't understand what your goal is here.

Let him work and pay him he is almost done.
You are not investing in his business.
Mention you will give him referrals if he does a good job.
