My kids said some kids did it at their middle school. They had to get extra help after school from the teacher but some of those kids did well in the class.

Yes, I see they have added non-intensified Alg 1 and geometry in middle school. That is fairly new, it used to be only intensified offered for these high school courses.
Again, in all pathway options you can only go to algebra 1 (any variant) from pre-algebra, whether you take pre-algebra in 6, 7, or 8th grade. Pre-algebra is considered Math 8 and you take the Math 8 SOL at the end of the pre-algebra course.
I haven’t heard of a student going from regular math 6 directly to Algebra 1, but I’m sure a parent could insist. However do understand that Algebra 1 and Geometry taken in middle school (along with the other high school language classes and world geography) show up on your students’ high school transcript. You do also have the option to drop them as a senior if you want, as long as you satisfy the number of credits needed in high school years.

DHMS now offers both regular and intensified Algebra 1. That may be a change from when they added intensified to MS.
