I am a teacher and want to get away for the summer. However, my teenage DDs, not so much. They don't want to leave their friends and band camp. So, last summer I stayed home and planned a couple of weeks at our summer home. However, this summer, I am leaving for a month and the girls can come as they see fit. They both can now drive and DH has to stay home for work.

We have a second home about 3 hours away from our home home. We have 4 kids, ages 16-10. Now that we have 2 kids in high school it’s more of a weekend summer home. Two of the kids play travel sports that require significant travel so June was a bit of a wash this year. They also want to bring friends all the time. I’m good with that, but that means we have a lot of teen schedules to juggle now (summer jobs, sports, etc)

I still love having our own get away house on the water. The kids love it too. The crazy schedules are just a moment in time and we’re building memories. This is going to be the house all the kids want to come back to year after year when they have their own families.

Not true for travel baseball, softball, summer lacrosse and basketball. Just off the top of my head.

During Covid I became remote and now spend my summers in Delaware. I have been here since the first week of June and I am staying until August 11th. I will come back before Labor Day and stay for a few more weeks

Yes. It was great when the kids were younger. After a certain age they wanted to do other things, so we’d spend less time there. That started during the teen years, although we snuck on some extra time during covid.

Re sports, our kids competed at very high level, so they’d either go to specialized camps or do another sport to avoid burnout.
You’ll deal with it once you reach that point.
