This, alongside Westbrook Elementary, are the heart of the Westbrook neighborhoods. The Carnival, Halloween across neighborhoods, newish Luminaria tradition in December, our famous listserve….all make this plsce special.
You can see new builds and expansions/remodels in this neighborhood. From chatting with other neighbors, we like the new builds but really LOVE the expansions/remodels. It’s fun to see how the original 1938 houses are reimagined.
This particular house had a cool expansion, you can see the side corridor filled with light, the back room facing the patio and garden, the exposed staircase to the basement and kitchen placement. We toured this house when the realtors came and the upstairs was equally light and airy.
The basement is a quick fix, honestly, because the house flow is where it’s at.
Redford Road is a great street, too. Walk the whole street and you will see cute homes, this one has two sharp-looking houses in each side.
As lots of Bethesda, simple fixes would make this neighborhood look a bit more “put together”. But many think this is part of its charm. It is the more laid-back, hippier cousin to, say, Woodacres and we can walk to AU Park, are excited about Friendship Heights being reinvigorated, etc.
As to neighbors, a simple chat will show doctors, lawyers, multilateral internationalists, executives, who come and retreat in this hidden happy neighborhood.
Home prices show a solid investment for homeowners, too.

It seems every listing I am interested in goes before the open house. I think it sells before the sign even goes up. How much do you think this house in Bethesda sold for?

As another poster mentioned, the neighbors are wonderful and very educated. Smaller, original homes have older people so yes, those houses are not quite nicely kept as others. These homes show the generational transition, and newcomers expand and remodel those homes very nicely.
The street that house is in is actually a very nice one. Houses are pretty, one sold a couple of years ago had a real glow up, and there is another almost done with a major remodel/rebuild.
As for walkability, it’s true that River Road is busy, but it is still close to the Metro, FH is getting a massive makeover, the park across is getting s makeover, and the surrounding neighborhoods are beautiful- Brookdale, Sumner, Westmoreland Hills, AU Park.
I think whoever purchased this house did a smart investment.

I guess these aren't big issues if you are resigned to your role as a a car-bound soccer mom, who spends half their live in their [insert name of mid-size luxury SUV]. Otherwise, few should be envious of the lifestyle the buyer of this house will soon "enjoy".
But.. most of Bethesda is like that -- you're not going to live a car-less life. It's not DC.
