You can decide to stop paying for law school and she can decide to stop talking to you. Unless her getting married changes how you file your taxes in whatever state or country you pay taxes to, I wouldn’t say anything.

If it does change your tax or healthcare situation, let her know that. Ask *her* what *she* wants to do about it. Take her to your financial planner. Do not make up fake reasons why getting engaged will change things financially.

Personally, I would support as much as I could without any strings and be happy for them. I obviously wouldn't take loans or go bankrupt, in that case they can take their own loans or find part time jobs.

I think it is completely within your right to discontinue paying for any advanced degree if yiur child decides to marry while still in school. I might do this if I thought their potential spouse was a poor fit. Otherwise, I might be glad they are making a commitment to each other in marriage rather than shacking up so I may continue to pay tuition. Really depends on potential spouse and how grateful my child is for the assistance.
