I'll be the outlier here - I walk/hike/run in RCP all the time alone - yes we are in the area up around the Nature Center. As far as I know - there has been no crime in that area of the park - other than Chandra being dumped there. My biggest fear? Big dogs off leash. I let my teen daughters walk too but staying on the main trails.

I have taught them how to be alert and how to not fear being rude - someone freaks you out run. I am not saying there is no risk but there is just so much risk in life. I worry much more about them driving on the interstate. Or being assaulted by someone they know. It is like traveling to certain countries or being afraid to ride the Metro - you read the news and think no way. It's always better than it is portrayed. Use common sense but live your life.

Chandra Levy was killed in her apartment dumped there in RCP. There was a 911 call from her neighbor who heard her screaming.

It's not a safe thing to do. My dd runs and they always go in groups of three.

I’d let my daughter do almost anything alone before I’d let her do that. And I’m pretty relaxed usually but absolutely not.

This was a few months ago in Burnt mills area.

Silver spring is crime ridden and so is DC. Bethesda has unsavory people coming in from DC , may e a car dependent area like McLean or great falls is safe

Criminals don’t drive cars?

Predators drive cars and they are more dangerous because of the ability to grab you inside the car. They’ll stop to ask for directions and then say, do you need a ride ?
