No schools don’t have drop in care or partial months. They have to staff and retain people so you pay for the whole month. You can stop but then you can’t restart. Drop in? That’s just not a thing.

You said it was in middle school drop off. Did you mean it was in the middle of school drop off?



Yes. Though we have a middle schooler too, but they can walk to school.

I am expected to start my work day at 8am everyday. I get up by 5:30am. Can't remember the last time I slept past 7am, including weekends.

I have to be at my school by 7:30. I drop my son off at daycare at 6:45 to get to school on time. My employer sets the hours so I ha e to deal with it. We used to have to be there at 8:45 and then they moved it back to 8:00 and now 7:30. I just have to roll with it.

I agree. I have to be at my school by 7:20 and classes start at 7:45. My own children attend a school that starts at 8:20.

It’s a struggle, but it is normal to me. We deal.

For all of those above who roll their eyes at a meeting after 3- really? I think anything before 5pm is reasonable. I only work 8:30-5pm though.


This is the way. But it depends on the job and more importantly, it depends on how comfortable your husband is with pushing back. My husband talks a good game, but hates saying no. The result of that is that I have very little patience for things he supposedly "has to do" and refuse to compromise very often.

+1. Early morning is especially important for calls with both Asia and Europe. I also have a lot of calls from 8-midnight with Asia.

I have a standing 8am meeting Tuesday through Thursday. If I have to do kid drop off and go into the office, I usually do the meeting on the train on my phone. But usually I am not on drop off duty that day or I’m teleworking. On Mondays we meet at 9 and Fridays at 8:30.

I’ve been on this schedule for the last year or so as part of a major project. I actually really like it-we touch base on everything that needs to get done that day.

I’m a fed. Most meetings are between 10-3, but 1-2x/month I may have to meet with someone at 9/9:30 because we can’t find any other open time on our calendar. Maybe 1-2x/year I’ll have to do training or something that starts at 8 a.m. We’re given plenty of heads up and it’s rare so not hard for DH to adjust his schedule for those days. One of the perks of my job though is having a flex band so I can control what hours I work outside of our core hours. I’d only give this up for a much higher level of financial compensation.
