I highly recommend The Idea of You, by Robinne Lee. It's a novel (I listened on audio via Libby) that I think may have started as Harry Styles fan fic. Centers a woman who's about to turn 40. Escapist, fun, and super steamy and explicit in parts. Definitely for the mums, not the teens.

OP back with more Dramione recommendations. I’ve tried to get into other subtypes, but Dramione is still the most satisfying. Neither of these are for kids.

This one is short and well-written, and the author (in my opinion) sticks the landing at the end!

Yes fanfiction is often great. And as someone who read a lot of Twilight fanfic back in the day it's amazing how much of it got published and became extremely popular and/or critically acclaimed. For example, the bestselling erotic novel of all time, 50 Shades of Grey, was a twilight fanfic before it ever hit bookstores. So often, whatever fanfic community you're in, youre reading authors who are actually really talented and sometimes go on to have massive careers.

Pleased to see this thread resurface. I gave some recs above.

I recently realized that the first Trump Administration plus Jan 6 plus Trump's resurgence as a candidate was part of why I stopped reading The New Yorker. Because of covers and the political short articles up front. As well as longform articles.

Fanfiction got me off news sites and away from The New Yorker (so it piled up).

I'm in my DCUM era now but it's waning. I'm feeling the call of print books again after quite a drought.


Okay - I just want to thank or strangle whoever resurrected this thread. I read Draco Malfoy and the mortifying ordeal of being in love - and was obsessed. Not the best writing. But, so satisfying. Is it allowed to read fan fiction??? And now I'm sucked into Remember Us In War which is darker but interesting too. Sigh.
