Another vote for sailing camp. Our DS ended up joining a high school team after his experiences. Amy Zang usually has room at Washington Sailing Marina in Alexandria. DC Sail is full, but their schooner camp has spaces and is ages 12-17 at the Wharf.

Also, Camp Friendship has a senior camp that goes to 16 that we have had good experiences with.

My 13-year-old is doing one week of service camp and a week of an "adventure" camp (different outing each day). Four weeks vacation. Rest of the time hanging out with friends at the pool, etc.

My 13-year-old is going to a handful of camps for his age group. There are many interest-based camps around DC for teens. I refuse to let him stay home and sit on the computer all day, which seems to be all he's inclined to do these days. So - off to camp he goes.

My kids 9 and 13 do a lot of week-offs as others are describing. Band, Theatre, Basketball... plus piano and swimming lessons weekly.

I wish they could do something more 'stable' but it's too expensive and we do like to have some downtime/lazy days.
