This. Just explore Apple Music or Spotify and choose one. Suck up paying the monthly fee and move on. You can download as many albums are your phone can hold, make you own play lists (just like burning a mix cd!) and all of that. It's not random music that pops up, you can just listen to albums then if you want.

Some of the comments on here make it so clear that some Millenials/Gen X don't understand how streaming works.

Again, you mistake availability for lack of obsolescence. CDs were made obsolete by 2001 with the invention of the iPod. Hell, I remember using a radio adapter for the iPod so that you could get your tunes on the radio as early as the 2000s.

Typewriters were still sold all throughout the 90s and up to 2009ish when the last major maker of typewriters closed. That doesn’t mean typewriters were long obsolete before the 90s and 2000s (they were). What garbage logic you have.
Off course CD's were on the way out. But if stores were still selling them up to 2018, and cars still had CD players installed in them in 2018, then they were not obsolete in 2001.

They sell portable external CD players on Amazon (or anywhere else to get electronics) that either plug into USB or transmit locally on FM.

20+ years is an exaggeration. My vehicle is 9 years old and came with a CD player.
