No it’s not. I’ve been around hunting dogs all my life and I’ve literally never heard of this. If a purebred dog isn’t game, you’d at least donate it to family or friend. Shooting it is insane.

For those wanting context: She got a German Wirehaired Pointer puppy, which is a gun dog commonly used for birds along other things, and didn’t train it. Brought the untrained adolescent dog on a “hunting trip” where the hunting dog showed clear interest in birds (which is great), then left pissed off bc it didn’t know how to properly hunt. Again, bc it’s 14mo and untrained.

Then, she stops at a property on her way home. She’s irresponsible and lets the dog get loose in a property where there are chickens! The dog is clearly interested in both birds and hunting, so it kills the chickens.

She then kills the puppy and brags about it as if letting a totally untrained hunting breed puppy loose around chickens wasn’t ENTIRELY her fault and a clear sign of being an irresponsible owner and a psycho unable to admit when they mess up.

It's a good thing she never thought of becoming a teacher. We often have trouble controlling children (even when not that young) and they do stupid shit time and again but we don't just take them to a gravel pit and shoot them.

What profession do you work in where people or animals are difficult to handle, but you don't just shoot them?

I work in rescue- this dog would have been snapped up. She never gave it that chance. She's filth.

It's more responsible than dumping, either outside or at a shelter. Taking care of the problem rather than sticking someone else with it.

It wasn’t a problem. It was a puppy who wasn’t qualified to help her shoot birds and wasn’t trained in a day so she killed him. Knowing he wasn’t trained she had no business having him unleashed. She is trash.

Where are you from? And why are there so many abandoned dogs in Southern states? Texas alone has millions of abandoned dogs in their streets. A lot of them are shipped to the Northeast where people understand that kind of sick cruelty is not something you do. How can someone live with themselves knowing they dumped a pregnant dog by the side of the road. It makes me physically sick. It’s a top ten reason why I could never live down there.

I fail to see how executing your own dog and goat with a gun is "politically incorrect" in a way that would appeal to conservative voters. Is this something common in South Dakota? Is it common for gun owners to execute a domestic animal if they have a problem with them? I can't believe this would give her "cred" with her target audience or that the publisher didn't suggest she leave this story out of her book.
