Yes, always ask the kid where he wants to play.

You always lose deposits.
Is playing on a 4th arlington team better than a 2nd mclean team is the real question

Best to just let the kid decide where they want to play than force them into a place they're not sure about.

If the club is nice, they'll let you use the deposit towards something or even refund, but generally you're just going to lose the deposit regardless of any 'contract'. Nothing binds you financially before the season begins.

Of course! I'm all things not just soccer. But especially for a soccer team.

Unethical. I wouldn’t do it. Call Alex for an early tryout by joining a practice. If they won’t then you have your answer.

That last minute deal is always known to the club well in advance. Only a surprise to its loyal

Sometimes it’s even more backdoor those new kids don’t even try out and people are just left mystified that it seems a roster is half full when it is really backfilled

You must not know how clubs work. They screw over kids all the time. I know two kids who were on the second best team only to be moved down to the third best time because the coach wanted two players who he knew from the lower team. No warning. Nothing. This occurred this past winter. It was a blow to the face for the two kids and parents.

Also, very common for clubs to leave roster spots literally empty in case they can recruit and steal a better player from another club. Clubs have zero loyalty to the kids. I've always taught my kids, at this age, to look out for their best interest unless it's something illegal or immoral. Clubs don't care if you leave especially clubs like MYS where there is a list of 20-30 kids who didn't get an offer more than happy to jump at an empty spot.

parent politics are very common. +100

we had a coach text my son that his name was on the roster for the first team...and congratulated him.

then the next day an offer for the second team came and we found out 2 bench riders were pulled up (they had parents that had big influence in the club).

my kid declined and then they started calling us, submitted a new offer, etc. but it left such a bad taste in our mouth we never went back.

i'd like to say that was the first instance in the 10 years my kids have been playing club soccer, but there were even worse things and high school took the cake on creative rostering for donors/legacy.

next up: the number of times a coach left mid-season or went under or the league changed, etc, etc.

We already know he'll get an offer after MYS tryouts, but he's seriously considering trying out for Arlington and seeing if he can play with his friends from there. With Arlington being next month, if he accepts MYS spot can he just drop it if he ends up deciding on Arlington next month? I assume we'll lose the deposit for his spot.

No you should stick with the team that you committed to. They expect you to come otherwise they might have invited someone else.
disagree based on my 10 years on travel. Clubs have no problem fing your kid over when it suites them. [b] So always find the best opportunity.

100%

Have a Senior in HS and a sophomore.

I have seen it all.

We had a kid who left a month or two after the fall season started. They were paying monthly so they cancelled their future payments.

The club did nothing.

Anonymous wrote:So I took a quick glance at a few larger clubs' stated policy on fees and refunds, and they all do seem to state there are no refunds and that you must pay your full year's fee to be in good standing.

Does anyone have experience successfully leaving without paying the full year's fee? That seems awfully excessive, esp if you haven't started the fall season.

If you are a new player to the club, they don't have your card. Who has experience with this post tryout season? I've heard the club doesn't register you until deep into the summer. It can't be that a club has claimed you to their roster for the fall while the Spring season is still underway.

Wondering how this works especially with NCSL and EDP.

You sign a legally binding contract. It's pretty open and closed case. It has nothing to do with your player card. They have retainer lawyers and filling out the paperwork/submitting it is easy. Especially certain DMV clubs... Look at how many coaches have ended up in league troubles this season alone. But if you want to risk it, go for it. Horrible advise for unsuspecting parents tho
