The reality of that doesn't hit until after students have moved to campus. So, no, it doesn't matter. Then you see that naloxone is carried by upperclassmen, but the administration still doesn't grasp what is going on.

Ours got in from FCPS last year but ended up at UVA. Couldn’t justify the price delta.

I also think it could partly depend on your kid’s major but I graduated from Chapel Hill years ago in journalism. They must have had slots to fill and yes, I did write a killer essay. 😁

Also, you’d be hard pressed to find a conservative on that campus.

Your kid should apply but not get his hopes up. Good luck!

I would guess you'd need to be minimum 34 on the ACT to be viable. 35 is better.

You don’t apply for a major for admissions. So your DD’s friend isn’t something to base this on.

I know of one girl who was accepted this year from NoVA. But she attends Trinity Christian School, a private.

About ten years ago, a boy from my kids' NoVA public high school was accepted, with a full ride. He was also accepted to Michigan and UCLA (didn't apply to UVA). Chose UNC.

UNC Chapel Hill does not have satellite campuses. All other UNC System schools including NCSU, UNCW, ECU, UNCA are all independent schools.

UVA is a safety for the very top handful of kids at high schools who get 25-30 kids into UVA each year. Yes it is hard data the school counseling office publishes. The problem is a lot of students think they are near the top with their 4.2 weighted despite that being around average at some Virginia high schools. Scoir reveals gpa ranges at the top to be much higher but parents do not investigate as much as they should and schools do not rank officially anymore.
And for this group of kids, UNC is a "match" not a reach, with about 40-50% of the very top kids getting into UNC OOS.
