I ran afoul of obnoxious Penn mom already by talking about sketchy stuff I saw when touring in parent times.

Rhodes

Trinity
I've only visited Trinity from this list and the surrounding hood was absolutely horrendous... but I can certainly imagine Memphis and Philly being worse.![]()
I've told this story here before, but my overly sheltered kid was horrified by New London when we went for a college visit...until we ran him by Trinity on the way back to the airport. Never heard another word about the former.![]()
What's wrong with New London? Is it just old and worn, or is it actually hood?
Well, DCUM in general probably a different opinion, and there are certain neighborhoods I wouldn't walk around in at night, but I never personally felt unsafe. It's more just old and worn and my kid was sheltered, especially from working class New England life. (He ended up there despite that, so I guess he got over it.)
How does he like Conn? I know the gender ratio gives the fellas a huge advantage in the dating market, but does he get a lot of competition from the Coast Guard studz?
He's not at Conn - he's the "competition".If he makes it through Swab Summer...

Tell him to do it for the girlz. He'll have plenty to choose from down the road at Conn. No offense to anyone's son who goes there, but the dudez aren't exactly known as manly.

My kid and I felt like it gave the place a boarding school feel, which was a big turnoff for my kid. Not to mention, the surrounding neighborhood is a different story when it comes to crime. Not somewhere a single female wants the sun to set on her.
Have you looked at Sewanee? It has a lot of similarities to Rhodes, including the architectural look of its campus, but it's set on something like 10,000 acres instead of being walled into a questionable urban area. My kid loved it but ultimately decided it was a bit too far from city life, so she chose another LAC.
