Anonymous wrote:Doing some research on Delaware and Lewes, Bethany Beach, Rehoboth beaches for a possible move/extended year rental and I'm shocked to read about the high crime rates there. 1 in 10 chance of being a victim of property crime. That's ridiculous. Some websites state that that's some of the highest crime rates in the country! They do not specify whether most of time crime happens seasonal when people flock there all summer but maybe thats it? What else explains this high of crime so such a low number of population? It's baffling.

For example, many people in this area seem to think that posting on nextdoor is the same as calling the police, so DC crime is much higher than the stats indicate. Maybe in DE they actually know how to report crimes to the police.
True plus even now here when you call the cops they don't really want to take reports.

Love our place, great community and neighborhood, use it year round as a weekend getaway, so many priceless family memories at the beach, and love the crazy appreciation we have seen.
If you are actually so worried about crime at the beaches by reading some stats instead of talking to actual property owners, then don’t buy at the beaches. No worries. Plenty of other people will and demand is definitely there.
So since you don't see it all the statistics are incorrect?

Funny how they are all pretty much white males doing the crimes.....

Same here. Maybe OP is looking at places further out, not beach towns? Downtown Rehoboth, Bethany, and Lewes are pretty safe.
I don't get your post. Are you in denial? The first sentence of the post, "Doing some research on Delaware and Lewes, Bethany Beach, Rehoboth beaches for a possible move/extended year rental" then a few posts down links showing the horrible crime in the area. Why would you post, "Maybe OP is looking at places further out, not beach towns" when both the title and the first sentence of the post confirms where they're looking? It's totally asinine.
Have you been there? I’m a pp and tried to explain. Saying there is a lot of crime in the center of town and close to boardwalk homes is like saying you live in 20816 and there is a lot of crime in Montgomery County. Get it? Sure, there is crime in certain areas, but not in the key downtown areas. The crime is out on the highway (at times) and beyond. There are only 1500 households in the City of Rehoboth Beach, and similar smaller numbers in Bethany and Lewes. You are thinking of the County equivalent.

So where is your source saying crime is not an issue in that area?
So much denial here...

You can start at page 62.

There were a grand total of 9 homicides in all of Sussex County in 2022. Delaware only has three counties.
Plenty more data there, if you'd like to actually study it rather than troll.
WTF?! You are a total idiot lol 9 homicides is a TON for such a teeny tiny population of Sussex County!
How stupid are you?
