Subject: Murder at the Brookland metro station today
Why are we talking about fare evasion if these are middle school students? Don’t they get free Metro? (Which I support, I just don’t understand the conversation here.)

Local elections are different. They are mainly about land use, crime, taxes, and schools. DC is limited in what laws they can pass without congressional approval anyway. A couple Republicans elected in DC would beneficial at this point if helps to roll back the crazy soft on crime policies.

What is your PLAN to deal with this, dude? We don’t need to “address the trauma” - we need to ARREST AND PROSECUTE CRIMINALS.
If they get tough on crime, it will disproportionately affect those of certain races. The council members therefore won't take steps in that direction.

Actually, it can turn around pretty quickly. These were high school (middle school?) kids. Already kids are recovering from the damage of 1-2 years of virtual/hybrid school (or no school). The current lawless kids will graduate (or stop going to school) and the kids who replace them will come of age in a time of increasing law enforcement rather than decreasing law enforcement. This is one of the few benefits of the criminals being juveniles. They will grow up and the new minors will come of age in a different world.
It will take a lot further action. If you want toothless, you should look into the "tickets" for public smoking of marijuana. So toothless the cops don't bother writing them, even though it's fairly simple to follow the cloud of pot to the Tenley Whole Foods garage stairwell -for example- and find a few (or many) folks engaged in petty lawlessness to cite. The approval of dispensaries near schools doesn't bode well that our Council wants to turn anything around. They dont seem on board for the coming of age in a different world thing you describe, unfortunately.

Black Lives Matter actually means Black Criminals Matter; it was actually pretty obvious because the people who invented the slogan also said they wanted no more police. It was never a movement that cared about black non-criminals.

WMATA touts the new gates as reducing fare evasion by 70 percent but that was only at first. I’m not that poster but I was on a train recently and a group of very loud teens was near me. They started playing music with pretty nasty language really loudly. Then they started sort of whispering. I got up and moved to the other side of the train. I’m not avoiding all teens (I have three!) but teens that look like they don’t give a sh-t what adults think, I am avoiding.
