We went in 2010 and spent 3-4 days in Kruger in their rest camps. I thought they were great (as a pretty easy traveler not used to luxury accommodations). My favorite was Oliphants where we sat on our patio for hours watching elephants at a watering hole. You can book game drives and game walks at each rest camp. I got restless with drives and self drives, so really appreciated the game walk. It’s hard for me to sit still all day.

I have done two safaris with AndBeyond. They manage lodges/camps throughout Africa but will also book you into other properties. They handle all the logistics like internal flights and airport transfers as well.

One big difference to ask about when you look at prices for each lodge is how many people per vehicle on the game drives. Fewer per car is usually less $ per night.

DP. Oh, come on. We were all thinking that. It was just a flex and not helpful to OP. I briefly thought about how to translate a “bespoke” safari for 5 into a a safari for two, and I realized it can’t be done. There’s a baseline cost — you can’t just divide by 5 and multiply by 2. I also suspect that OP understands that one can spend as much money as you want on such things.

It was so long ago (2007) that I don't think prices matter at all anymore, but we spent our honeymoon Cape Town > Stellensbosch > 2 safari camps in Krueger. I literally cannot recommend the Singita camps enough - we went to Boulders and Lebombo, but they have a number of options - but the luxury and service juxtaposed with the natural beauty and experiences were literally the best trip of my life, and we travel a lot. Back then the camps were 1k pp / per night fully all inclusive of everything you can imagine, but may be worth checking current costs as it's a true dream trip. We hope to ake our kids when they are in high school as we don't think the cost would be justified while they are any younger.

I am PP -- I don't. I travel everywhere for work. Often in risky places. I call it like I see it. My firm will not allow Mexico travel for executives without armed guards for fear of kidnapping. If you do not think Istanbul is risky you are crazy. I did not say I would not go -- just said risky. Cape Town is riskier. Still would go if I had to but not the best.

Your company is ridiculous and their fears have bled into your mind as well. I feel sorry for you, living in such fear.
