Riverdale parent here. It is a great school with smart kids, but also unbelievable wealth and connections. It has been eye opening to see the extent to which $$ makes the world go round…

Ha! I thought you were posting this to highlight the extensive bios for each kid not where kids got into school. Shows where my head is….out of synch with this listserve!

I was going to say something similar. When I grew up in NYC, Riverdale was considered good but not great, a step behind Trinity and HM. I guess things have changed.

OMG I went there back in the day. It was a good school then but nothing like now. These days it's number 1 in NYC- hardest to get into and best college admits. The place is a country club- incredible campus and faculty - they have pumped hundreds of millions into it. Yikes. I wonder if I could get in there now. However OP's post is totally cringey and not relevant to DC.

New York wealth is on a different level from DC wealth. Dalton, Trinity, Collegiate, Brearley, Spence, St. Ann’s, etc. all have way more development cases than the top schools in the DC area. Horace Mann used to be the top of the Bronx schools, but it’s probably Riverdale nowadays.

Lots of ny privates are like this- trinity, dalton, brearley, Horace Mann. That world comes w a whole diff level of wealth.

I think it's location and certain schools. An uber-rich friend of mine from a southern state (clears $10-20m/year) was complaining that their AO from the most prestigious girls' school in the city could barely get the valedictorian into UGA (OOS), let alone an ivy. Girls couldn't get into the top 5 state schools. Well, the AO moved to an equivalent girls' school in NJ and is now sending multiple girls to ivies. AO confirmed girls same caliber. These aren't country bumpkins. It does suck.

MCPS public schools have similar numbers. My kid's year at Blair it was like 5 to MIT, 5 to Brown, 5 to Penn, 5 to Hopkins, 4 to Duke, 2 to Caltech.
I know some of the W schools have a lot to Duke and Penn through legacy.
