I have curly/straight/wavy hair so I do a long layered cut and only just started colouring it this year as the silver was turning my hair a cooler tone I didn't like. The only bummer is the hour I lose every four weeks- like clockwork- as my hair grows so fast and I don't like a root line.
Do people really not mind spending so much- or do you actually enjoy it or do you feel it's such a necessity for a pro to do it for it to look good?
How did you learn to cut your hair though? Through trial and errors?
There are tons of videos on youtube but I don't know if I have the courage to go through the experimental phase.
I'm the PP whose husband learned to cut my hair from YouTube. I wore it in a pixie for years and short hair is perfect for an "experimental phase" because it needs to be touched up so often, if you mess up, try again next time. (My husband eventually got better at my pixie than the stylists I went to pre-covid.)
I wouldn't cut off six inches as an experiment though. Long hair is riskier. That's why I need a stylist now - if i screw it up at home, it'll be months before I get back to baseline.
