You want kids with a good work ethic who will do well after HS? HW can help.

It would be best to stick with a non-AP track at public OP. Private schools (except for Montessori) are going to stick kids with a lot of homework.

My kid had a friend who needed a different balance. They transferred to Nora and have had a really good experience. I think some of it is less HW, and some is that school is less overwhelming so they don't come home drained.

Private school in the DMV is not even close to public when it comes to Math or Science. Which is why acceptances to places like CMU, MIT, Georgia Tech etc are much higher in public.

Now if your kid went to a boarding school like Andover then sure. Buy your response you are at one of the local Catholic schools.

Not true at all, PP. It’s determined by objective measures - testing! Not grade inflation. Math and science in many DMV publics are better than many privates (there are some exceptions). I had a DC in private and in public and can attest to the different options and abilities within those classes. It is absolutely not grade inflation that has led to greater acceptances to top STEM colleges.

I have kids at Field. The homework load is reasonable. My kids rarely do more than a couple hours a night, and often much less. They have time to do sports and other activities. They are not burned out and they love going to school. College outcomes at Field have been fantastic the last couple of years.

Honestly none. No one on here wants to admit that their school has minimal homework because parents - especially those who went to public school in flyover states and ground themselves into a position to send their kids to a top DC private - still think that having kids who have 5 hours of homework a night is something to brag about. See alllllll the responses above to see what I mean.

How much homework do they really need?

The question was is there a school with minimal homework and most of the answers here are an imagined flex of how much homework their kids school has. Cool. Enjoy!

I agree that there is a good amount of homework at Burke, but the school does not give homework just for the sake of it.

Our kid has a lot of homework and in two classes last year had weekly quizzes and regular exams/no retakes.
