I can’t tell if historically Black and Latinx Greek organizations were also suspended. At some institutions, they are under separate umbrella organizations.

I have told my teen son that two heads are generally better than one except when it comes to teen boys, as it seems that teen boys get into a group and then decide to take all their bad ideas and mash them together into one big ball of craptastic decision-making. He basically agreed with me. I really stressed with him to importance of making his own independent decisions when he’s in a group setting.
Look at that awful Damascus assault case from years ago — would any of those boys have thought that was acceptable, if you asked them individually a week before it happened? I’m sure almost all of them would have been appalled at the idea. But you get them in a group and suddenly one idiot’s worst idea becomes something that everyone is participating in.

I heard the same thing from my daughter, who is part of sorority She feels that the sororities are not endangered since they do not do hazing. That said there is no contact allowed between sorority sisters and incoming pledges.

I agree, and I was Greek at UMD- looking back, it was not nice, elitist and racist. I am proud my terp is not greek and is really into his club sport. It is his social outlet at UMD. 4 practices a week, tournaments, parties and socials. It was way better than my greek experience.

Yes, students are better off if they just stay in their dorm rooms on their phone.

This is a public, state-funded university. Make the incident reports public and dole out consequences. The Greek system is a legal liability.

It was silly when I went to school 20 plus years ago. I don’t get it at all. Maybe service fraternities? But based on recent threads on this forum, the entire system seems so vapid.
