Completely disagree. I’ve dropped everything many times for “urgent” corporate meetings. All it did was force to miss out on family/personal time and establish me as a boot licker. I’m not a surgeon or the POTUS. Bob’s imaginary deadline can wait an hour.

Agree. Or it had better be really important people whose calendars are always booked. Daycare doesn't open until 8 and while yes I have a spouse and can trade off, I can't make it work on short notice or every day.

Is this supposed to be persuasive? Most docs don't round at 7am. Those that do are surgeons and they're doing to before their cases in the OR. It's also part of their normal schedule. POTUS, is well, POTUS, and that's not a reasonable comparator.

So, how about YOU share with us YOUR work hours?

Earlier in the morning is annoying because its disruptive to the entire family schedule. When my kids were in elementary it meant waking them all up an hour earlier, arranging beforecare, etc. Evening is just easier to have coverage from aftercare/other parent.

The youngest doctors working today and the ones most likely to be working the worst anti social hours are gen z .

Doctors actually have fairly established hours. The point here is that this meeting was outside established hours. Which is okay once in a while or if it's truly urgent.

My one job we had nearly all meetings between 730 am and 930 am or lunch time or after 430 pm.

We blocked 930 am to noon and 2pm to 430 pm as core work hours. Meetings were at non core work hours

No email notifications after hours, no, and I don't check. I'll look in the morning but not early enough to adjust on the fly.

I have a high level job. I block out when I’m not available between the hours of 7:30 and 5:30. Anything else l will make it work to be on. I take plenty of meetings from a parked car.

Wildly unpopular opinion : I miss the days when people would send an email asking when I was available for a meeting. I hate the idea of "blocking my calendar" and "putting something on someone's calendar" as if any unbooked time means I am free to meet. I might have a big project due the next day or be thinking of playing hooky this afternoon. And I definitely think it's ridiculous to have to block times outside of 9 to 5.

I set working hours on my calendar and don’t check email or attend meetings outside of them unless I feel like there’s an actual need to. Having already paid for a workout class outside of standard working hours is a totally reasonable reason to decline a nonessential meeting.
