I really don't think it's that big of a deal

That’s so weird.

On the bright side you can call the baby Larlo 2.

Don’t worry about it. If either of you puts your kid in public school in northern Virginia, one of the kids will probably have a different name and gender by 3rd grade anyway.

+1. It’s creepy unless there is any possibility she didn’t know your kids first + middle and/or it’s a very commonly used name combo.

I think the friend did not mention before because she knew you would not respond positively. But once the kid is already born and named, what can you say? If you press it or drop her as a friend, you would be a jerk, so she played it right, given your response now.

I think it’s weird that your close friend had a baby 2 weeks ago and you didn’t know the name until you went to her house.

I gave my first born son a well known- but not currently well used- boys name. Think "Warren" or similar. I have since had two friends name their sons the same thing, from different circles in my life, and each time the friend has sheepishly given me a sort of heads up. Like, "we can't think of a traditional name for our second boy! We have it narrowed down but, interestingly, DH really likes Warren... haha... I know, right? Would that be weird? Like I'm not saying it's going to be his name for sure!! But like.... if it was... I mean would you mind?"

I was able to chalk the first one up to coincidence- and also, if you want a traditional boys name, it can be tough to pick one not overused!- but not the second one.

But, whatever. Mine is older so we know who came first!

We named our child the same first name as a friend who had moved away had named her son. It’s a popular top 20 name. After he was born we realized the middle name we chose for him (both of our grandfather’s names - Charles) was her son’s middle name, too. Completely unintentional since we don’t pay attention to kid’s middle names and honestly once kids are older you don’t know anyone’s middle name. I’m sure she thinks it’s weird but it was not done knowingly and these things do happen. Later a friend asked to name her kid the same first name as our son and we said - sure. It seemed weird to us but years later when the kids play it doesn’t even matter. Don’t get worked up about this - it will be a nothing burger in 5 years!

We used the same name that my friend gave her DC1, who's older than mine by several years. The difference is I asked her first before naming my kid, and she laughed it off and said it's totally ok.

I think the only weird part is her ambushing you like that.

+1
You copied your family's names and unless you're making something up all names are copied from one's you like. Just move on!

In my religion, it's not copying. It's keeping the memory of a deceased relative alive by naming a new relative after them.

That is an entirely different situation than this post.

If she was a close enough friend she would have mentioned this to you before you came over.

It's strange to me unless its a very common name.
