We did. We actually knew the previous owners and trust them…but we don’t know their dog walker or house cleaner etc.

If the smart lock doesn’t have a key option, the new owner just changes the code.

Even if there is a key option, there would be no reason to give 3rd parties a key to your house since you would also give them a code (which you then change).

I guess you just have to trust the sellers didn’t keep a spare…probably want to rekey for good measure.

This is what we did. We rekeyed the other exterior doors.

We did it ourselves. If they can be rekeyed, you can do it. If not, buy new exterior deadbolts at a hardware store.

When we installed a smart lock, it was a whole new key, so if you do this on the day you move in or soon after, I wouldn't bother having the lock changed. If you have more than one door and you want them all on the same key, you might want to have a locksmith come after you put the smart lock in, so they can match other doors to that new key, though.
