I’m 57 and my style is on the updated classic side but not preppy. I mostly shop at Bloomingdale’s and Nordstrom. I’ve found some nice things at Anthropologie, Jenni Kayne, Veronica Beard. I get basics at Ann Taylor (gasp!). I’ve even gotten tank tops from Chicos while shopping with my mother. Some of my other go to brands are Vince, Theory, Paige, Hobbs of London, Black Halo.

It’s new to me but Evereve seems geared towards women 40+ without being frumpy. They carry some popular brands but also their own. Mid range. I’ve been happy with the few things I’ve purchased.

Yes! And for years has been talking about her crisp button ups. I was about to respond and say I wonder if it is the same person and then I reread the post above and lo and behold she mentions the button ups.

Who wears “crisp” button ups anymore? They were a thing when I went to law school 20 years ago. Not so much now. Maybe the Hermes scarves pull it all together

I'm not that poster, but it is a good, classic look. You will definitely look polished and nice for many different occassions if you're wearing a white button up, jeans, blazer, silk scarf. (I don't but see women who look great like that)

Well, perhaps this is a "good, classic look" if you are a grandmother. As evidenced by the age of the woman in the picture.

This is almost exactly how my mother (80 years old) dresses.

I buy mostly from Nordstrom Rack and Nordstrom, and have for many years.

I have to admit, though, that I am letting some Talbots creep into my wardrobe. Help me ward off the demon.

But I'm gaining weight in peri-menopause so I think that make Talbots maybe make sense?

I went t-shirt shopping last week and the Talbots 3/4 sleeve tees felt the most comfortable to me. I have sensitive skin (Gap tees itch even after multiple washes) and the Talbots tees felt breathable and comfortable. I will be the first to admit that Talbots can be dowdy but for basics like a t-shirt they are a great option for shopping in person, especially for those of us who want to cover upper arms and are over a size 14.

Not a summer look so why are we even talking about it? No one is wearing a scarf in summer. Or a blazer.

Anonymous wrote:Now that Betsy Fisher, Wear It Well, and Forecast are no more, where should I shop? TIA

I moved here from California and lived on the Hill, right around the corner from the Forecast. Later, thanks to a colleague, I found Wear It Well. Both stores had great clothes for grown-ups and both had wonderfully savvy and fun sales staff. Betsy Fisher always felt too Washington. Wear It Well’s sister store, Sequel is still in Bethesda. I’ve gotten some beautiful dresses there (Luna Luz and Joseph Ribkoff), but the vibe isn’t the same.

1. Christ button ups are back in.
2. Got to help us all with this picture. It’s fine if you like this, it’s fine. But seriously there are 3000 different ways to wear a button up that doesn’t look like this.

This outfit is horrible. No one should look like this.

This look gives NCS mom circa 1995. But if that’s your thing, go for it. Different strokes for different folks. RIP, Sly.
