This makes sense. Or he thinks he might have left something behind. Or he wants to look at something for his pen pyrpises. I am always finding tools or supplies contractors forget.

If he showed up with a moving van, then I’d be suspicious.

What about all the DCUM posters who say they never answer the door or even acknowledge if they aren't expecting anyone? Isn't that unsafe to ignore the door then?


Like…I’m not in control of DCUM posters answering their doors or not. All I know is, burglars frequently knock to check if anyone is home.

I do think it's odd he would try to rob an empty house that isn't furnished. You'd probably know or strongly suspect it were him since you'd just hired him! Any chance he needed to use the bathroom or something stupid?

He just said “oh, okay” and turned around and left. My car was in the garage. I think he may have been after new appliances as they were delivered the same day as the handwork.

What did he do when you said you didn't have a call from him? And was your car parked right in front of the house?

Where did you find this handyman and have you checked his reviews to see if anybody else has reported theft? Have you checked the Better Business Bureau or the licensing department?

OP: Your instincts are spot on. He was there to take something. Happens everyday all over the country. Very sad as the theft process often results in costly and substantial damage to the building.
