I heard there were about 30 kids from TPMS last year but this is all just gossip. I agree TPMS prepares kids for this program but also I think kids at a magnet are also more interested in applying to a magnet. TPMS is also nearby and I'd wager more kids from TPMS apply than any other school.

It could be 30 kids whose home school is TP + more who attend the magnet from other areas.

No one is asking about kids who went to TPMS in the magnet but has other home schools. The question is numbers entering from the middle school magnet.

No, that's quite explicitly NOT what the question is.

It’s not the original question. But it’s where the discussion has gone.

Anonymous wrote:Since Blair SMCS is open to all down county, there are a lot of other high performing schools that arguably can be considered "feeder" schools in the sense that there are kids that may apply with great creds. I am referring to schools like Frost, Cabin John, Hoover, Pyle etc that churn out highly motivated students that are well prepared for HS (with the inevitable external enrichment). So if you see a lot of kids from TPMS, that does not mean that they are somehow advantaged or have received special enrichment that makes them ideal for SMCS - it just means that more of them apply and accept compared to the other MS mentioned above.

As a parent who has 2 kids who have been through the SMCS program, one that went through TPMS magnet and the other that went through one of the other schools above, I do have first hand experience. TPMS is good but it is not alone.

I agree, and I think this is well accepted. The point of the discussion is that some posters seem hell bent on claiming that the quality of the magnet has gone down since the lottery. Clearly that’s not the case given the large number that were admitted to high school magnets this year but many here want to denigrate the program because their kid didn’t get selected.
