Doctors coming from India, don't do undergrad, they go to medical school after 12th grade, do 5 year MBBS, pass USMLE and then apply here to do residency, take boards and start practicing. They seem to make fine physicians.

Also, I would be shocked much emphasis was placed on the doctor’s schooling vs their current hospital, practice reputation, etc.

Best doctors line. Stop scaremongering. College grades and MCATs also serve as a check. Some of the differences in inbound qualification just come from what the school district and parent provides (math tracking, AP classes, customized SAT tutoring, etc.). It doesn't matter to me if my doctor had AP Calculus BC in high school. I'd rather that they were a nice person who loves helping other people and is a good listener. Saying this as someone descended from a JHU doctor/medicine professor.

Go read up on all the measureable issues that minorities have getting good treatment for medical issues. Start with Black maternal health as a topic.

Prof here. All profs are complaining about student preparation these days. It's gone way down hill. Not due to race-based admissions, but probably due at least in part to Covid.

For the people in the back, not all Hispanic/Latino people have indigenous features. We come in many “shades”. Walking around campus and not seeing many “stereotypical” Latino students, does not mean there really aren’t a lot of them there.

To the people posting concerns....do you not know any biracial families? Intermarriage has been increasing for decades. You cannot always tell people's ethnicity visually. And that can be a racist obsession.

Also re: declining applicant quality...that seems to be more a factor of how badly we treat the teaching profession, school funding, students doing less reading and writing, etc. I once attended MCPS and now am far from it in a more funding challenged area. When I read the MCPS threads now, MCPS has all the same issues as my local district.

I think there are people on this board who are obsessed that DEI is disadvantaging white kids and that's way overhyped. Nobody needs to go to a specific institution and there's lots of choices. I've known lots of successful people with high pay from lower-ranked schools. At some point, it's about what the person brings to the table, not the name on the diploma.
