It is nasty when cats are on counters and tables and are licking at food.

I no longer go to my friend's home because she has a cat. I don't accept food from her house either. Filthy.

I prefer to have her at my house or at a restaurant.

It's not that common, it is possible to train them not to jump there. In 20+ years we've had cats they jumped on the counter maybe handful of times. You find it disgusting then don't have cats or visit cat owners. I'm sure you're doing something that someone might find disgusting. Can't please everyone. I'd rather likes of you refuse to come to my house then not have cats, so there's that. NBD

It's totally disgusting and based on my friends who have cats, it doesn't seem like you can do much about it because their cats are always on the kitchen counters and dining room table.

I think it sooooo gross but I also think so many of these commenters are massive germaphobes. You'd think cat owners were living in squalor by the way they're talking.

My cat jumps up and waits by the kitchen sink daily until we turn on the water so he can get a drink.

Exactly. It's not like I encourage it. I actively try to stop them from doing it, but they do what they do. If dogs had the agility, you don't think they'd be up there too.

It’s gross and I’ve been served cat hair in my food at their house. Disgusting!

To each their own, if you have a pregnant resident or guest in the house, keep those counters clear/clean. In fact, because of the link between toxoplasmosis and schizophrenia, everyone should avoid it. Toxoplasmosis transmits via cat feces, so if they are on the counter after being in the litter box, there’s always a small chance. Another reason to keep cats inside and not killing rodents and songbirds outside.

I am an animal lover but I find a dog jumping on the bed after its been taken for a walk outside and stepping in who knows what just as disgusting.

However, I’m fortunate that my cats don’t jump on the counter (that I know of and nothing appears disturbed) but I still wipe it down especially in the morning and at night. I’m no saint and know they’ve been hanging out in the litter pan.😂

My brothers dog does. And it’s particularly disgusting because they don’t even try to stop it. Apparently it’s cute.

Our cats like counters but we work hard to keep them off. If I’m preparing food for guests or undertaking a long cooking/baking project, they are closed off in our laundry room. My first step anytime I prepare food is to disinfect.
