If the Dems want to win more national elections and win more state offices, then they need to get a grip on the progressive pro-criminal policies. The rest of us are getting put in the position of living in crazy R state fascist-land or pro-crime crazyland. The reality is that 80% of the electorate is middle of the road.

This is the sad reality of our political system at the moment. The loudest nutheads in both parties are currently responsible for policymaking. I do occasionally think that I'd like to leave DC for somewhere more conservative since it's far more left than I am, but then I see some of the policies that those idiots come up with.

Trump has a history of making very questionable nominations, like nominating crooks and grifters, cronies, and ineffectual leaders. I don't know of any leadership shakeups that came out of his term that were in any way positive, and if anything it just led to more federal dysfunction.
