Are you a teacher? I'm in LCPS and think the break is fine this year. Its more than long enough for students and families. 2 week breaks just means summer starts later.
Yes I’m a teacher. Have you not realized that we have a shorter winter break this year AND go a week later into June than we did last year ?
Not a math teacher I see. We accidentally only had 170 days of school last year. It was the anomaly - you got 10 free days off. This year is back to normal with 180.
We can thank you and your friends in a certain parent lobbying group for lobbying for 180.
Thanks a bunch for nothing. All you accomplished was a wasted 3 days in the weird half week before Christmas. Half the kids were out anyways, kids who went watched movies, there was no teaching. The rest of us - parents and teachers - would have much preferred two weeks off.
Parent here. It doesn't help when your child's teachers are telling them it's not worth coming and essentially encourage them not to. Yes, that's what multiple teachers did. Then there were also a few teachers who let them know they weren't going to be there themselves - so, a substitute...and we all know what that means.
And no, not "the rest of us - parents....would have much preferred two weeks off." Speak for yourself. You don't speak for me, a parent who does NOT prefer long winter breaks. Stop using me and others as part of your every-opportunity-conceivably-possible axe-grinding.
OMG this is why we can’t build consensus in our world anymore. Democracy is dying because of this attitude: “me first and my opinion only”
Look at this as being a pro social skill to encourage in yourself: sometimes going with the flow and allowing other opinions to be the majority is good for society even when your opinion/preference isn’t being expressed in the solution to the issue.

For the short break, we really should have had today/Tuesday the 2nd off.
No we should have had the full first week. That half week made no sense at all.

180 days is the state legal minimum for days in school. Why on earth are you advocating for less than the minimum?
APS used to count by hours which is also allowed. But that wasn't good enough for you and your friends. Congrats, you've burnt out the teachers and got yourself 3 more days of babysitting where the kids watched movies.
that is absolutely untrue. APS has always had 180 days of school. Post-pandemic, APS did attempt to justify counting by hours rather than days- the state disagrees that this is allowed and specifically said that 180 days is the starting point, and then, in case of snow, etc- can switch to hours. APS reverted back to 180 days. This is a good thing.
where did the state say this?
NP - I don't know anything about what the state said, but it is absolutely the case that prior to 2020 APS stuck to 180 days as the standard.
