The accutane side effects weren’t bad in our case. What was annoying were the frequent pregnancy tests. So if you have a boy, go for it. For a girl, just be prepared for the serious hassles involved. It really works though.

Antibiotics often word while you are taking them. My son's face cleared up with them but then broke out again once he stopped. Accutane has kept him mostly free of acne. He sometimes still gets pimples but so do I.

Accutane. They will adjust the dose to help with the symptoms. It’s the only thing that works for bad, cystic acne. And maybe your kid is willing to endure the side effects to get rid of the acne. Ask them.

You are really cruel if your kid has bad acne AND scarring but you won’t even consider accutane because side effects a friend had? You would rather your son be in pain (cystic acne can be painful),have Poor self esteem, and permanent scaring?

Accutane works! Show him before and after pictures!

NP. You jumped to snark too quickly. The PP asked regular versus pediatric and you jumped down her throat. Other posters are not your enemy.

My son's doctor prescribed him 3 months of oral antibiotics and Retin-A cream. Much fewer side effects than Accutane.

Accutane is the only thing that works. My son went from bad cystic acne to beautiful skin. We stayed at a low dose to avoid side effects.

Accutane was a miracle for 2 of my kids. The third just needed 5 months of antibiotics and a topical sulfur wash daily. Accutane was the next step, but never ended up needing it. I think you are doing your kid a disservice, OP. Accutane works very, very well and having bad acne can really mess with a teenager’s self asteem nd confidence.

Mine went to a regular one. I took her to the same place I went for skin screenings starting at 11 since she was having severe and stubborn acne.

It took some trying with the dermatologist but she’s had great success with a mild cleanser and prescription adapalene and clindamycin. She’s 13 now and uses this with rare breakouts.

Dermatolgist. Not sure why you haven't already.

The dermatologist gave her special wipes for her face and told her to use differin - now her skin is clear. Wish we had gone much earlier.
