If you think application fees are a consideration, how on earth do you plan to pay for actual tuition, room and board?

For my first kid, each AP exam fee was $100. Tutoring ran up to $250/hr (fancy prep center). University sticker price is 85K a year (he gets merit aid).
I would be worried about the WORK involved in writing personalized applications for 20 schools. Not the fee.

Good lord

I’m happy with our 529s and kid who will happily attend a school less than $30k/year

10

1 public, in state

9 private, OOS

(In retrospect, 7 would have been sufficient).

My son has 6 turned in.

He plans to complete around 6 more (several are almost done). He just finished midterms Wednesday.

He’s high stats and decided to throw some more reaches in.

9

4 OOS publics (we’re in DC)
5 privates

In EA at two of the publics and one of the privates, all with merit. Rejected ED at one of the privates; will apply ED2 to another. Third choice is an RD private.

Thinking to add 5 more (LACs)

But WHY?

Seems like better reaches per our private’s CCO….and based on where other kids from the high school are applying/whose left postED (need to break up those clumps if kids are expected to have a real shot)….

6.

4 public, including 2 OOS flagships.

2 private.

Got great merit at the private schools, bringing the cost to the in-state flagship. Picked the in-state one. (last year)

My kid did 9:

6 in-state, 3 out-of-state

6 private, 3 public

I would say 1 safety, 1 reach, 7 targets

In at 6 so far.

We haven't heard back either. It was a safety for DD but she got into her ED.

Earlier last week, DD added 3 additional schools to her list. She got into an EA school so she did drop one school from her list. She won't listen to me either about it not being necessary to add those 3 additional schools. At least she dropped a school.

Good luck to both our DDs. She has a few EAs she hasn't heard back from yet. I don't know that she would shorten her list even if she got into those. She's a very strong candidate and I'm curious to see where she will land.

3 reaches, 3 safeties. No targets.

UMD, 1 other state flagships, 1 private
