Sadly, the law is the law. Wife is entitled to 50% of everything you made during the marriage. Yes, it sucks for men which is why there are a significant drop in marriage in the last several years. Fact is you need to place value on raising three kids at home for 18 years. It's not easy. Problem is value is subjective.

But, as a man who recently went through a divorce and lost $2.5 million on assets, I'll tell you I was fine with the 50/50 for one reason alone. That reason was I can always make more. My wife was lazy and doesn't have any work ethic. I do. Yes, I lose so much. But, my stress level is down and my kids LOVE seeing me (we share 50/50) when I have them. Less stress and I can focus on earning more money. She's just spending it all.

Move on. You can always make more money. The value placed on removing stress from your life is invaluable and worth more than money.

Does she have a funded 401K?

In a 20 year long marriage with kids, you were a partnership. She invested in you, and now she wants her payout.

No doubt you worked hard for the 10 million, but the reality is that you also got lucky. There are people who work harder than you have, and will never come close to making that money.

Also, you likely still have a great deal of earning potential. Your soon to be ex doesn’t…she sacrificed that for what she thought was the good of the family.
