I met a Russian billionaire once. Was in a meeting with him. He didn’t strike me as exceptional but he was certainly very aggressive and knew an opportunity when it presented itself.

I have met two. One was a client who came from family money. Very reserved, almost awkward.

I worked for a very large family owned company where the heir and heir apparent are billionaires. They were not quirky. Pretty much what you’d expect. Time scheduled down to 15 min intervals, large staff and security, multiple nice home, PJs. I worked down the hall from the heir apparent and we had lunch a few times. We were early 30s. I travelled a lot for fun back then, pre-kids. He said he wished he could do that. I said he could do anything, right? He said no. That was kind of illuminating, like his time was not his own - he was handled.

A father of my friend growing up. I had been to their (beautiful) house many times but had never met her father. Her mother was one of the kindest, loveliest people I've ever met. One night I stayed for dinner and he was super rude to me (I was about 10 or 11). He was impatient and annoyed with his family. Never saw him in person again. They were big on yachting and travel--the yacht staff would take the boat to Sardinia, say, and they woukd fly there to meet it. He left his wife for a younger woman around age 50. In some ways they were very normal but the advantages they had were insane, like one of the kids opening a private school that he funded, another kid opened a super upscale store in her 20s.

At least one. A friend of my parents. I knew him before he was a billionaire though so he didn’t seem too different from the rest of my parents friends. Friendly guy. Was kind of a “right place at the right time” guy in finance. Gets steamrolled by his wife. His kids are nice and while they’ll never have to earn money, I think they were raised well in a close family.

A friend from HS, decidedly middle class, had high ambitions and made it. I've watched him over the years. He was a very focused person even in high school, delayed gratification (I remember him buying a new Stephen King book but not reading it until term end..this really stuck out to me as a 16 yr old). He also worked hard at the "right" schools- Penn undergrad, Harvard MBA.
Only online presence is when he tweets out books he is reading, and his online profile is squeaky clean. But he was never a troublemaker. Super guy and I am happy he has done so well.

Multiple.
Honestly kind of odd as a group. I think that much money is isolating. You could meet them once and think they were pretty normal but with several interactions you see the differences. I don’t think their families were as close, the money causes distance.

I met her in Westhampton NY literally on Dune Road in the summer. I literally in my wrangler on way back beach honked at her in her BMW convertible and got her to pull over and invited her to the Westhampton Beach Club for drinks. On the spot. I am not a member but knew Bar open to public.
I took her on a date next week at her place in Greenwich Ct. At this point I am in deep.
Dad then told girl to tell me he will introduce me to his friends at his country club and swing by and it was $250k to join maybe I could join to play golf with him and his daughter.
Game over.
Either this is fiction, or it happened in 1963.
