This is why I hate the gym. My DH comes home regularly with gym stories about he and other dudes arguing about equipment. They all seem like douches to me.

No that's fine although your phone resting on a piece of equipment that needs to be wiped down sounds a little gross to me. I keep my phone on my body. Otherwise you are doing nothing wrong in terms of gym etiquette.

I'll go out on a limb and say "no one was in the wrong."
To me this sounds like a complete non-event. You'll find yourself much happier if you don't obsess with stuff like this.

Holy S. I created a home gym about 4 years ago. It was very expensive as you can imagine and I never thought it would be worth it. In addition, I'm a very social person and it took me forever to get used to working out alone. Boy and I glad I don't have to deal with this bullsh*t.

How well do those wipes work? Washing your hands is probably far more important.
Gym rules. You have to use the wipes, so whoever was before her did not wipe their machine down.

Actually yeah you can, and it's just fine. Never seen anyone have any sort of near miss around bags. My gym is quite big and open and I would say at least 1/3 of the people bring a bag around with them.

Gym culture and mores vary. My gym has a huge sign about no bags on the gym floor. And a smaller sign with other rules that are broken all the time - no dropping weights, no grunting, etc. Almost everyone honors the no bag rule. Except one guy who brings a duffel and also grunts and drops weights. At least he’s consistent.

I go to a Golds too and it is pretty normal to have your bag with you. It has never been an issue.

I hate when people leave their stuff on a machine. Carry a wipe with you.

She was in the wrong.
You don't haul your bag all over the gym. That's what locker rooms, shelves, etc. are for. You also don't own equipment. If someone wants to work in, you let them the vast majority of the time, especially for machines.
So many ignorant gym noobs.
