Not true. No one is faking Schiaparelli. But I’d assume that any Gucci stuff in a thrift shop is fake.

I found a knee-length version of Audrey Hepburn’s Breakfast at Tiffany’s dress — handmade from a designer pattern — for 25 cents at a garage sale. It’s fit was perfection. This was in the 1980s.

I got the most beautiful wooden doll house with a ton of furniture and tiny accessories inside (plates, teapot, towels, washcloths, books, tiny toys for the doll house kids, etc) for $5- all beautifully hand crafted! My kids have loved it for going on 3 years now.

I found an authentic Ferragamo bag that was almost new for $30!! The lady who owned the store had no idea what it was. I could not believe it.

I'm an odd size, so never found clothes that fit - found things I loved, but alterations (if even possible - can't always make pant legs longer!) were $$$. And I just don't have an eye for collector items like that vase in the CNN article - I'd have walked right by it. So thrifting never really worked for me, other than some used kids clothes when they were toddlers and outgrowing everything every 4 months. But I still think this thread is awesome and I wish many great wins on all the thrifters out there!

There are so many well done fakes. When people get them, and don’t like them, it’s illegal to resell them. Often they donate. At the same time there are many people who resell online passing it off as real. And there are people who might actually donate a new coat with tags. But chances are high it’s a well done fake.

I bought a kindle scribe for $50 earlier this year at the thrift shop. Amazon is currently selling them for $270.

In January of this year I bought a 50 inch Roku TV at the pawn shop for $100. It works great. I wanted a Roku TV because we switched from cable to antenna for TV reception about 4 years ago and I missed having a TV guide like we had with cable. I had read that if I had a Roku TV I could have the TV guide feature on the TV again. I get 73 channels on my TV with an antenna, and now I have TV guide on it too, Yay!

I found wooden hand-painted animal dominoes made in Soviet Union. They were made in the 80s not far from my town and distributed to daycares. They are so colorful and beautiful.
I had to move to the other side of the world and wait for 40 years to have a box all to myself.
We all played with them growing up.
Wish I hadn't thrown out he moldy box though. Not sure what I was thinking, but it was in bad condition.
I have a theory or two how they ended up in Thrift store in MD.
