Whoever “wins” MLSNEXT or ECNL this year will be forgotten within 30 days. Can you name who won last year? No one cares. And - that’s not the point. Play the games to work on becoming better players in a team concept. It’s all about getting better.
Can it be done without playing on a high level club? Yes - but it is very very rare. Easier for girls as a good player can still play with guys as a kid. Sanchez just proved that.
The highlight here is, learning to become a better player in a TEAM CONCEPT.
Learning to be better player is about the individual and the coaching at youth level.
I don't doubt that you're correct coming off of some coaching manual or ideology from who knows where but I'm not sure if that is a good thing as kids get older and then need to learn how to play as a team.

All spots are earned.
But there are only one or two good teams. Why reward the 5th team that barely breaks 500? Only the first or second teams have a chance.
