So many schools are trying to provide kids with clothes, food, health care, basic necessities, and it’s not sustainable. There needs to be an expectation that parents are going to provide their children with food, shelter, get them to school, etc. and if not then there need to be social programs (NOT just the public schools) in place to help struggling families. Schools absolutely cannot do everything.

You can’t blame COVID either, because these rankings are relative to every school in the state, and they clearly dealt with COVID too. This is specifically due to the way MoCo schools are being run.

It's funny that you specifically phrase this as "normal people", considering pretty much any selection of people in the world, the country, the state, the county, or any sub population outside your weird little bubble would be overjoyed to send their kids to our best public schools.
On the other hand, a person who unironically suggests that you're better off homeschooling or "On line", whatever it is you mean by that, gives you a better education than W schools, is not going to be described as a "normal person" by anyone.
NP - I don't think that you are familiar with what goes on during the day in public school even at "Ws", nor the type of education that homeschoolers can receive, either through on-line or in-person classes.
My understanding of what goes on during the day at Ws is that kids attend classes, make social connections with a good peer group, perform well on standardized tests, and go on to do well in life.
Making friends with smart people and being successful in life was a challenge coming from Gaithersburg in the aughts. But go on and tell me more about how attending a W school and getting private tutoring where needed amounts a "trash education", I'm willing to hear you out.

The biggest flaw in the state rankings is that EML students end up effectively counting in multiple categories. The increasing EML population is a big impact. Yes, many EML students also qualify as FARMS, but many do not. MoCo has always been the destination for many families serving the embassies. As our diversity has grown, we attract immigrants from all around the world and their children are getting great educations. It just doesn’t get captured they way the state tracks the data.

Yes. Strange that the feeder school, Pyle dropped. The student and staff survey ratings are quite low. I’m not sure how that factors into the ranking overall, or why that is, and I don’t get why Whitman is doing better than ever but Pyle dropped from a 5 to a 4. Given the upper middle class demographics, it should be a slam dunk easy 5.
Some people don’t like Pyle due to size, etc. I have friends whose kids did Whitman for hs and feeders for es, but for ms they went private.

Some specific public ESs are an absolute waste of time, that is true. But others are wonderful.

The county rolls out the carpet for illegal immigration, they're all poor, and now schools qualities decline. Totally predictable. Now people with means will flee and hasten the decline of the county.
And the superintendent wants another 5% increase in budget - I guess for her salary raise and more central office managers. As a teacher, I have no confidence in the school district to turn it around.
