So that's what I based my recommendation on. Villanova is a much harder admit. Of course, I don't know OP's kid's info.
Are you guys talking about Holy Cross in Indiana near Notre Dame or College of the Holy Cross in Mass? The one in Mass is pretty hard to get into these days. The one in Indiana is not.
I just checked my kid's jesuit hs scattergram and for College of the Holy Cross (Mass), with a 3.5+ wgpa, acceptance is almost 100% over the last 5 years. Too many green dots to count and just a couple WL or rejections.
well but he has an advantage coming from a jesuit high school
harder if coming from public and not catholic

I know a kid who was deferred from ND and Georgetown last year and admitted to Williams RD. The process is still just beginning for most kids...

Last year DS was deferred and ultimately rejected from School of Foreign Service at Georgetown. He was accepted, among other places that were not specialized in international affairs, at W&M joint degree programme with St Andrews (international affairs) as well as George Washington Elliott School (also international affairs). Went with GW, and is happy there.
If your child knows his major or field of study, he should look for slightly less selective colleges/unis that offer the same thing.
